What is an AED and Why do I Need One?

Heart Disease is the most common cause of death in the United States in adults.

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator is most often used in conjunction with CPR to assist someone who is experiencing a cardiac event.

Facts about AEDs and Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) according to the American Red Cross:

  • About 90% of people who experience an OHCA die.

  • High quality CPR from a bystander can triple the chances of survival.

  • Every minute the use of an AED is delayed, the chances of survival decrease by 10%.

AEDs are easy to use, and will not deliver a shock unless it is necessary. Having a well maintained AED onsite is critical to the survival of victims.
